RAWALPINDI - In a successful operation, Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Karachi seaport team confiscated a container at Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT) and recovered 85-kg of fine quality heroin, besides nabbing two accused, informed ANF Headquarters spokesman here on Thursday.
The value of the seized heroin was told to be Rs 593 million in international market, he added. According to him, ANF during a routine checking foiled the smuggling bid by recovering the huge quantity of heroin. The container was loaded with 3000 crates of oranges, destined for Malaysia. Heroin was placed in 17 crates, each having 5-kg of drug-packs concealed as packing material. He said that the concealment was quite deceptive due to placement of drugs in only 17 crates out of 3000, as well as similarity of packing material for whole consignment. He said that ANF faced challenges in checking of perishable consignments due to time-bondage and quantum of flow.
In this case two persons have been arrested. The case has been registered in ANF Police Station under CNS Act and further investigations were under process, he said.
It is pertinent to mention that ANF Karachi Seaport Team has met successive accomplishments in recent past. Since November 2013, ANF has seized 5.86 tons of heroin from containers at seaports of Karachi. These drugs amount approximately Rs 4092 million in international market.
