Punjab releases Rs32.3m for developing grain market

HAFIZABAD - The Punjab government has released first installment of Rs 32.3 million for the development of new grain market near Madhrianwala Road. The DCO has urged the the officials concerned to deposit second installment of allotment of shops at an earliest so that grain market would be dislocated to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the city. It is pertinent to mention here that the site for new grain market had been acquired about 12 years back but grain markets have not yet been dislocated due to one or other pretext causing traffic hazards in the city particularly during harvesting season. AUCTION OF CATTLE MANDI: For ensuring transparency, the auction of Cattle Mandi in Thatha Gahra was conducted in the presence of Gujranwala Division Commissioner Saeed Iqbal Wahla. As many 14 contractors participated. The contract was awarded to highest bidder Haji Muhammad Akhtar at Rs 26.45 million for the current year. DCO M Asif, AC Pindi Bhattian Saadia Tehreem and other officers were also present and watched the auction proceedings. TRADITIONAL GAMES: Traditional games/sports would be promoted in the district to save the younger generation from going astray, DCO Muhammad Asif said on the conclusion of First DCO Kabaddi Tournament. The Punjab Kabaddi Club and Hanjranwali Kabaddi Club were declared joint winners as both the teams obtained equal points. The DCO said that local players of different games particularly traditional games would be encouraged. He further said that after the completion of Gymnasium and Sports Stadium, players of hockey, football and cricket would be provided better environments and opportunities to polish their talents. Safety training a must: Training of every person to take safety precautions is inevitable to lessen road and fire accidents, a Rescue-1122 officer said on Monday. At the conclusion of two-day safety training of students and teachers in Beaconhouse School, the community safety officer said that Punjab Emergency Service had started training youths for ensuring safe society and to prevent minor incidents. However, he said, Rescue-1122 was on the beck and call of masses to prevent loss of life and property. During the training, two students were imparted training in fire fighting, road safety and other related incidents. He said that seven thousands youth in the district had been given rescue training and called upon them to get them registered. 99 profiteers fined: As many as 99 alleged profiteers in the district have been imposed a fine of Rs63,200 by the special price magistrates while 12 shopkeepers were imprisoned for two days each for violating different sections of Essential Commodities/Price Control Act last month, according to official hand out.
