LAHORE - Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani who was on a three-day visit to Paris has to delay his return owing to a problem developed in the special PIA aircraft chartered to bring him back on Friday, TheNation has learnt. Now the Prime Minister will return home on Saturday (today). Sources informed that the PIA plane which was to bring Prime Minister back had developed a problem in its auto pilot system. The special configuration Airbus A 310-300 type aircraft, currently being operated by the Pakistan Air Force for VVIP flights, hit air turbulence minutes after it took off, and its auto-pilot system also failed to engage. The Prime Minister who was already in hurry and cut short his visit due to Abbottabad incident had to travel along with his delegation with a PIA scheduled flight Pk-750. PIAs VVIP aircraft A 310 is an old aircraft gifted to the government of Pakistan by the Qatar Airways during the tenure of General Pervez Musharraf. The aircraft is reserved exclusively for the use of VVIPs and handed over to PAF for its routine maintenance. The aircraft is being flown by PIA pilots, and its engineers duly carry out transit checks. Insiders in the national airline say there has been an alarming rise in the technical glitches since the time when former MD PIA hired Saleem Sayani as DMD. The defect in VVIP flight reflects the poor maintenance of the national airline. The PIA has outsourced most of its maintenance and repair work to other companies through a company located in Gulf, which is allegedly owned amongst others by front men of former MD and his DMD.
