ISLAMABAD/KARACHI/LAHORE - The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Sunday lauded General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani’s decision to retire on November 29th as a positive step.
In a press statement issued in Islamabad, PML-N spokesman Senator Mushahidullah said: “General Kayani’s announcement will end speculations and rumours.” He was of the view that Army Chief’s decision would strengthen state institutions in the country. In a statement release in Karachi, MQM leader Altaf Hussain has said General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has set a positive precedent by announcing his voluntary retirement on the completion of his constitutional term. He said the country faced many serious crises under the leadership of General Kayani. He could have easily toppled the democratic government, but he did not do that, he stated. This enabled democracy to flourish in the country, he said. Altaf paid rich tributes to Kayani and his colleagues and prayed for their health and integrity and security of Pakistan. In a statement in Lahore, Jamaat-i-Islami welcomed the decision of General Kayani to retire from service on completion of his term on November 29th. In a statement issued here on Sunday, JI chief Syed Munawar Hasan said that the decision of Gen Kayani would have good effects on the institution of Army. “This is a wise decision and heads of all national institutions would follow this,” he said.
