OUR STAFF REPORTER KHANEWAL - District Headquarters Hospital of Khanewal is running out of an anaesthetist, a physiotherapist and medicines, adding to patients problems. Patient are facing problems as surgical operations are impossible without a anaesthetist in the DHQ Hospital. The post is lying vacant since the death of Dr Wajahat, who was the last specialist anaesthetist in the hospital. However, the district administration and executive district officer (health) of Khanewal have reportedly taken no step in this regard. Similarly, the post of physiotherapist has been lying vacant for the last two years. In addition, the hospital of about 25 doctors lacks basic physiotherapy equipment, like complex exercising unit, exercise chair, Multi Exercise Therapy Unit. The patients who visit the hospital from the rural areas for free treatment, have to face medicines shortage for indoor and outdoor treatment. When contacted, Medical Superintend Dr Muhammad Yousaf admitted that seats for an anaesthetist and a physiotherapist were lying vacant in the hospital since long. He said, In emergency, we call Dr Sarwar Goriya anaesthetist from Tehsil Headquarters Hospital of Jahanian but nowadays he is not available due to his accident. Now, available doctors are discharging duties in place of an anaesthetist. He also said that the situation was in the notice of EDO (Health) Dr Irshad also. Khanewal DCO Rashid Mehmood told this scribe that the district government had invited application from doctors through advertisement in various esteemed dailies and soon the posts would be filled.
