Supreme Court Chief Justice designate Tassaduq Hussain Jillani has said that the judiciary will never compromise on supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law in the country.
"The judges will continue regarding the oath they took while getting into their office," said the CJP designate addressing a congregation of AJK lawyers held here Friday night. The ceremony was hosted by Mirpur District Bar Association and AJK Bar Council in honour of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Justice Tassaduq said that it was crystal clear that the judiciary do not have any political agenda. "As per the oath, we will make decisions strictly in accordance with the law without any fear and danger, and also defend the law," he added.
Paying rich tributes to CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jillani said that the incident of November 3, 2007 occurred when the CJP tried to make the decision in accordance with the law by demonstrating courage against those abrogated the constitution.
"Ensuring the supremacy of law and the Constitution is the responsibility of the judiciary and not any other individual," he added and recalled that at that stage and environment, the judiciary under the guidance of a judge raised the flag of regarding their oath. He underlined that the people around the world accorded respect and honour to the CJP and acknowledged his stance.
The CJP designate said that no society could survive without law and justice. He said that since 90 percent of the judicial cases are exercised at district-level, delivery of justice is the collective destination of both the lawyers and judges. He advised both the bar the bench to fully regard their oath during the course of their conduct and the verdicts.
Those also spoke on the occasion included CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, AJK Supreme Court Chief Justice Muhammad Azam Khan, AJK High Court Chief Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mughal, District Bar Association Mirpur President Sardar Ijaz Nazir, AJK Bar Council Vice Chairman Raja Sadaqat Hussain and DBA Secretary General Chaudhry Abdul Razzaq.
