Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umer Atta Bindial has said that the judiciary has a strong role in society and if courts provide justice, peace will prevail in society. Courts failure to do so will be a great unfairness as basic mission of the law is accountability.
LHC CJ Umer Atta Bindial remarked while addressing the annual session of Vehari District Bar Association here on Tuesday.
He asserted that the person in the driving seat was more answerable as he had to decide direction for the vehicle he drove. “Both the bar and bench should realize their responsibilities as our ultimate goal is to dispense justice to society according to the law,” he pointed out, adding that his motto was to provide justice at lower courts so the justice-seekers could not knock at the doors of high courts, adding that the high courts would regard the decisions of lower courts. The LHC CJ underlined that truth should always be followed as everyone had to show up before the Almighty Allah one day and answered for the deeds committed in this world. Justice Bandial stressed that role of lawyers was very important in society and they should always play it positively. “Today the chain of strikes is minimized which is a good omen and it will lead to smooth proceedings of trial courts,” he stated, adding that the bar comments about judicial officers were welcomed but it was their duty to provide true comments.
The LHC CJ pledged that all demands of the lawyers would be fulfilled and advised them not to become part of any political movement. “Many of you will be part of the bench in future and to reach this level hard work is needed,” Justice Bandial averred. He revealed that the case of Lawyers Colony was under trial and Inshallah the verdict would be in the favour of both parties. He also said that he had visited the Vehari DBA after 25years but the past memories were still alive in his heart and mind.
District and Session Judge Abid Hussain Qureshi, DBA President Syed Nadeem Raza Bukhari and General Secretary Chaudhry Muhammad Shoban also spoke on the occasion. Former LHC judge Habibullah Shakir, Member Punjab Bar Council Ch Nawazish Gujjar, former Multan High Court Bar secretary Syed Jaffar Tayar Bukhari, LHC Registrar Sardar Ahmad Naeem, MHCBA General Secretary Aamir Khan Bhutta, DCO Jawad Akram, DPO Sadiq Ali Dogar, President Press Club Vehari Naveed Iqbal Qureshi, Mukhtar Ahmad Bhatti, Anwar Aftab Rana, Mehr Sheer Bahadar Luck, Abdul Khaliq Bhatti, Malik Akhtar Nadeem and senior lawyers attended the ceremony.
Earlier, upon arrival at the Circuit House, the LHC CJ was presented Guard of honour. District and Sessions Judge Abid Hussain Qureshi, DCO Jawad Akram, DPO Sadiq Ali Dogar and judges welcomed the Chief Justice on the occasion.
He also went to the residence of deceased employee of Mailsi Civil Court Abdulur Rehman who died in police custody a few days ago where he offered condolence to his widow. Justice Bandial also inaugurated extension project of the Bar Room.
