150 rail crossings pose a threat to lives

SIALKOT- There are 150 railway crossings in district Sialkot having no gates due to which mishaps could take place at such crossings as at least 14 people were killed on Saturday when a train collided with a packed motorcycle rickshaw at a railway crossing in Sheikupura district.These crossings are located at a railway track from Sialkot to Wazirabad via Sambrial and from Sialkot to Pasrur including various congested areas of Sialkot city and Uggoki, Saahowala, Sambrial, Begowala, Adalatgarha, Alhar, Chawinda and Pasrur.According to the Sialkot based officials of Pakistan Railways, there are more than 100 kilometre railway track from Sialkot to Narowal. They said that now considerable part of the track was rusting. There was no gate since the establishment of these railway crossings. Several hundreds of vehicles and donkeycarts pass through these crossings. Dozens of the people have lost their lives and others sustained serious injuries in several fatal accidents on these railway crossings in past, they added. Meanwhile, local social, religious, political and business circles have expressed grave concern over the situation. They said that affixing the gate on these railway crossings was the duty of the Pakistan Railways. They said that they had repeatedly brought this situation into the notice of the high ranking officials of Pakistan Railway but to no avail.OATH TAKEN: The Tehsil Municipal Administration would soon establish a grand “Tea House” at Sialkot for the local poets, novelists, literary critics, educationists  and other literary persons, enabling them to promote their activities in Sialkot, the city of Allama Iqbal , the Poet of The East. There is no such point in Sialkot for this purpose due to which there are no proper and remarkable literary activities in Sialkot. Addressing the participants after administrating oath to the newly elected office-bearers of Rachna Adabi Sangum Sialkot in Press Club Sialkot, the TMA administrator made the announcement. He said that the TMA had already completed a proper planning for establishing it and work on this project would start soon. He also announced to hold a provincial level Mehfil-e-Mushaira at Sialkot after Eidul Fitr.Earlier, he administrated oath to Rasheed Afreen (President), Zahid Bukhari (Senior Vice President), Bashir Kanwar Pride of Performance Artist (Vice President), Ashfaq Niaz (Secretary-General), Younas Talib (Joint Secretary), Abdul Rasheed Batalvi (Finance Secretary) and Shafqat Ara (Information Secretary) of Rachna Adabi Sangum Sialkot.
