JUI-F, ANP to field joint candidates


PESHAWAR  -    Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) and Awami National Party (ANP) agreed to field no candidate against each other in the upcoming by-elections scheduled to take place on August 22.In this connection an important meeting of the ANP and JUI-F was held at the residence of Akram Khan Durrani, which was attended by ANP leader and MNA Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, Awami National Party Provincial Information Secretary Malik Mustafa and Mian Mushtaq Ahmad, while JUI-F was represented by provincial party spokesman Abdul Jalil Jan and Akram Khan Durrani.Leaders of both the parties agreed that they will support each other in those constituencies where they have secured majority or grabbed runner-up position. According to this formula, JUI-F will not field any candidate at PK-23 which was vacated by former CM Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, NA-5 where Mohammad Daood Khattak was runner-up while NA-01 where Ghulam Ahmad Bilour was on 2nd Position. The Awami National Party leadership also agreed that ANP will not field any candidate against JUI-F on NA-13 Sawabi and NA-25 DI Khan, and NA-27 Lakki Marwat. Likewise both the parties also agreed to support JUI-F on PK-27 Mardan and PK-42 Hangu; however ANP vowed not to field candidate on PK-27 seat, which fall vacant after the killing of Imran Mohmand.Talking to The Nation, Abdul Jalil Jan said that if ANP does not field any candidate on PK-27, it should support JUI-F candidate and in case of failing it may jeopardise the adjustment.The ANP leadership has not taken any final decision whether to support JUI-F on PK-27 or not as ANP wants to take their leadership in confidence and demanded time for this purpose.Out of the five NA seats, the JUI-F has either been runner-up or winner in NA-13, NA-25, and NA-27, while the ANP was runner-up on the two remaining seats, NA-1 and NA-5. Of the four provincial assembly seats, the ANP won on PK-23 Mardan, while the JUI-F was runner-up in PK-27 Mardan and PK-42 Hangu.On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami, which is a coalition partner of the PTI in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, wants latter to leave the seat for its candidate Asif Luqman Qazi, son of late Qazi Hussain Ahmad.Sources said the chief minister and provincial assembly speaker also went back and forth over PTI’s chosen candidate for NA-5 as Qaiser wanted his brother Waheed Khan to be allotted the party ticket. While QWP, also a coalition partner, has its eyes on one of the PK seats too.It is to mention here that as per the notification issued by the ECP, by-elections for five NA and four PK seats in KPK will be held on August 22. Nomination papers will be filed from July 3 to July 9 and scrutiny of candidates will start from July 11-17. The last date of appeals is July 22 while the disposal of appeals from tribunals will be completed on July 29. Last date for withdrawal of papers is July 31. Five terror suspects arrested in LakkiStaff Reporter from Lakki Marwat adds: police on Sunday arrested five suspected militants during a search operation and shifted them to an undisclosed location for interrogation.A police official said that operation was launched on a tip-off that militants had infiltrated into the district for carrying out subversive acts. The arrests were made in Darra Pezu area where law enforcers also eliminated militant hideouts.Meanwhile, under the new posting/transfer police the district police administration has transferred 48 policemen including sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors and station house officers. District Police Officer Abdul Rashid Khan issued the transfer orders.
