Bajaur blasts kill two soldiers

PESHAWAR - At least two soldiers embraced martyrdom and two others sustained injuries in two separate landmine blasts in Bajaur Agency on Saturday.
According to details, a bomb planted by miscreants near a security post at Pak-Afghan border in Bajaur tribal region went off targeting security forces vehicle, while another bomb planted at a roadside in Bara’s Kamangara area exploded with a bang.
Two soldiers were killed and two others sustained injuries as a result of these blasts. The dead bodies and injured personnel were shifted to nearby hospital.
Security forces cordoned off the area after the incident and started a search operation. However, no arrest was made till filing of this report. Being situated near Pak-Afghan border, incidents like shelling and attacks by militants from across the border are quite common.
“Two soldiers embraced shahadat (martyrdom) in Bajaur today in two different improvised explosive device blasts planted by terrorists along roadside in Bara Kamangara area and near a Pakistani post on Pak-Afghan border respectively,” the military said in a statement.
Nobody has so far claimed responsibility for the attacks but roadside bombs are often used by the Taliban, who launched their insurgency in 2007.
More than 4,000 Pakistani police, paramilitaries and troops have lost their lives to militants since 2002.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s government began negotiations with the TTP through intermediaries in February, with a ceasefire beginning March 1 but breaking down a month later.
