SP among 8 dead in Peshawar suicide hit
 
 
 




PESHAWAR - At least eight people, including SP (Investigation) Hilal Haider and four other policemen, were killed and 30 injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up in Qissa Khawani Bazaar on Wednesday.
Police sources said the SP (investigation) was on routine patrolling along with his guards near Khan Raziq police station when a suicide bomber who was on foot rammed into his vehicle, killing the SP and seven others.
The blast was so severe that it jolted the congested parts of the city while heavy smoke and dust gripped the historical Qissa Khawani Bazaar. Several vehicles and five shops were also badly damaged. The body parts of victims were found a few yards away from the blast site.
Edhi ambulances and rescue workers reached the site and started rescue activities. They shifted the injured and killed persons to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. Those killed were identified as SP Hilal Haider, his driver Ilyas, gunman Murad and three others.
Those injured were Abdur Rahman Khan, Almas Khan, Amir Shah, Arbab Ali Khan, Basherzada, Fiazan, Farman Shah, Habib-ur-Rahman, Hasina, Hizrudine, Irshad, Izatullah, Muhammad Jalil, Jalil, Javed, Laiq Shah, Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Iqbal, Munir, Naik Muhammad, Nasrullah Jan, Niamat, Rehman Gul, Rashid Khan, Rasool Khan, Rustam and Sabz Ali.
Moving scenes were witnessed in the emergency ward of the hospital as relatives of the victims were searching for their beloved ones. The police cordoned off the area and collected the body parts of the suicide bomber and other evidences from the blast site. Senior police officer Asif Iqbal told reporters that a seven-kg explosive was used in the attack. He said that SP Hilal Haider and four other policemen were killed in the attack.
Awami National Party chief Asfandyar Wali Khan and Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar strongly condemned the suicide attack on police personnel.
