NSC for strategy to eliminate terrorism and extremism

Islamabad- Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Saturday chaired a meeting of National Security Conference, comprising heads and representatives of all major political parties in the Parliament and the military leadership, here at the PM House.

Director General Military Operations Major General Amir Riaz briefed the political leadership about the ongoing Operation "Zarb-e- Azb" and the status of objectives achieved so far, said a press release issued by PM Office.
Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and DG-ISI Lt. Gen Muhammad Zahirul Islam, DG MO Major General Amir Riaz and DG ISPR Maj. General AsimSaleemBajwa also attended the conference.

The participants of the conference were informed about the areas cleared by the armed forces during the Operation. 

The Conference was also told that the terrorists are on the run and their command and control system had been crippled.

The meeting was briefed that during the operation and to handle the blowback of Operation "Zarb-e-Azb" requisite legal and constitutional cover had been given to Pakistan Army wherever it was required.

It was noted with satisfaction that the whole nation including political parties had rejected terrorists and their ideology.

The meeting was apprised that through coordinated efforts of armed forces, financing of terror outfits is being blocked. It was also stated that adequate resources are being mobilized for management of IDPs and they will not be abandoned at all cost.
Discussion in the Conference was frank, candid and held in a cordial atmosphere. Representatives of all political and religiousparties agreed that the State has to fight and eliminate militancy.

There was absolute unanimity of views on the need to evolve a strategy to eliminate terrorism on long term basis. The meeting also agreed to work to address extremism.

The meeting paid tribute to the valiant armed forces for successful operation and their achievements so far. Tribute was alsopaid to brave tribal brethren for their sacrifices and love for the country.

The government has also planned a comprehensive strategy for the rehabilitation and resettlement of IDPs.

The meeting especially emphasized on the development work and ultimate resettlement and reconstruction in FATA.

It was informed that stated policy of the armed forces during Operation "Zarb-e-Azb" is to avoid collateral damage and protect the life and property of innocent civilians.

The need for capacity building of LEAs and greater coordination to deny terrorists entry in the mainland was stressed.

The participants of the meeting showed satisfaction over IDPs management and advised the government to consider taking steps for providing more resources for the IDPs.

They agreed that armed forces are conducting Operation "Zarb-e-Azb" successfully and thanked the government for taking the political leadership of the country into confidence through this brief.

Earlier, the meeting started with Fateha for the shuhada of Operation "Zarb-e-Azb".
