Polio case surfaces as tribal belt braces for crippling virus

Another polio case was reported in North Waziristan Agency (NWA) on Saturday taking toll this year to nine.
Health department said that 16-month old Umer Gul, from Miranshah, was found affected with polio virus. 
Separately speaking at a function in connection with the three-day drive scheduled from Monday, Khyber Agency political Agent Shahab Ali Shah Saturday called for tribesmen’s help to purge polio virus out the agency. He reiterated the resolve to continue war on polio. The tribal elites assured the administration of their all-out support for the cause.  According to the health department, 128,000 will be vaccinated and for the purpose, 325 teams have been constituted to facilitate the tribal. In January, one-year-old child from Akakhel area of tehsil Bara was reported polio positive.
 The Bajaur Agency administration finalised arrangements for the campaign to vaccinate about 223,900 children against polio. In this connection, an inaugural ceremony was held with Bajaur Political Agent Syed Abdul Jabar Shah in the chair while officials, WHO reps and tribesmen were also present.  Jabar Shah reiterated his admin’s resolve to continue with war on polio. About 634 teams were formed to for the purpose.
