PPP to bring change through democratic means; Imran would take long march call back: Wattoo

LAHORE- Pakistan People's Party is committed to bring change in the country through the Parliament and democratic means, said Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, President Punjab PPP, while addressing an Iftar Dinner hosted in his honor by the Pakistani community in New York on Tuesday.

He said that his Party did not agree with Dr- Tahir-ul- Qadri to bring revolution through undemocratic and violent means because it was committed to the continuity of democracy and the supremacy of the constitution. Mian Manzoor Ahmed repeated his prediction that Imran Khan would take the call of long march back because the country was in a state of war and fighting for its survival. Tsunami and military operation cannot go side by side at the same time, he observed. He said that the PPP was extending total support to the soldiers who were now fighting against terrorists in North Wazirstan for the supreme cause of establishing the writ of the state usurped by terrorists thus posing grave danger to the security, our way of life and indeed the constitution.

Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo further said that the PPP was now in much better position than in 1997 when it had only 18 seats in the National Assembly and three in provincial Assembly adding it returned to power in 2002. At present, PPP has government in Sindh, G/B and AJK and majority in the Senate and 37 seats in National Assembly adding there was no reason as to why it would not repeat the performance of 2002 in the next elections. He apprised the audiences that the PPP-Punjab had completed the gigantic organizational task adding that he would present Chairman Bilawal Bhutto a robust and well organized Party when he would visit the province of Punjab. The Party has sound ideological base and as such is in a position now to take off by any measure, he asserted.

Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo appreciated the overseas Pakistani for their outstanding contributions to keep the wheel of the economy of Pakistan running by sending billions of dollars back home. Earlier Chaudhry Sarwar,President PPP, New York, Chaudhry Khawar Kaira, Nadeem Asghar Kaira and Adnan But welcomed the Punjab PPP President amid cheering slogans and assured him that Pakistani community here would continue their support for the democratic rule in the country which was the vision of the founding father of the nation.
