PAC seeks report from PSB

ISLAMABAD - Special Committee of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) was shocked on Tuesday when it came to know that Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) sold 47 acres of precious land, situated in heart of the federal capital, to an elite club at throwaway price. The committee met in the chair of MNA Zahid Hamid in the Parliament House to review audit objections for the financial years 1990-91 and 2001-2 in respect of ministries of interior, sports and information technology. The committee was surprised to know that the land did not belong to the PSB, however top bros of Pakistan Sports Board, somehow, managed to sell it to the influential and elite owners of 'Gun Club. How can the PSB sell the precious piece of land which doesnt belong to it? Hamid wondered during the proceedings of the committee. The PSB officials couldnt justify selling of land to Gun Club (a club of elite indeed), however they remained successful in getting some time as the committee directed them to submit a detailed report in this connection. During the proceedings of the same committee, the secretary information and technology found himself in hot waters as Hamid and other members questioned who was responsible for remittances of 0.5 million dollars to meet expenses on setting up of IT Mission in San Francisco without approval of PC-1. The secretary admitted before the committee that ministry of information and communication remitted $500,000 dollars for construction of subordinate office of the ministry in San Francesco while no PC-1 of this project was prepared. However, he remained tight-lipped when asked who guilty was. The auditors (AGPR) present in the committee were under the impression that the project was evolved to favour of some blue-eyed persons. The matter needs thorough investigations. Please give me more time to find out who was guilty of wrongdoings, Secretary Information & Communication Saeed Ahmed requested the chairman. The committee sought report on this matter from IT ministry within three weeks. The committee also voiced concern over awarding of contract by NADRA to a company for preparation of voters list without floating tenders and directed that a report in this respect be presented within 15 days. Most importantly, the chairman and members of committee spoke highly of the performance of DG Audit (FG) Syed Gulzar. You have pleased us by your performance; country needs efficient officials like you, Hamid remarked during proceedings of the committee.
