SADIQABAD - As many as 4,000 fake and unregistered gas connections have been unearthed in tehsil Rahim Yar Khan. However, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited Bahawalpur has sought a report in this regard.
According to the SNGPL data, there are more than 50,000 registered consumers in the tehsil and they are being supplied gas regularly. SNGPL sources revealed that out of the total number, over 4,000 connections are fake and unregistered. Following reports, the Bahawalpur officer sought a detailed reported regarding the fake connections. As a result, some 400 unregistered and fake connections have been registered.
However, the SNGPL officials said, the recently-registered connections were those which were not functional, slow or facing some disturbances. Similarly, some meter readers said that the reading of a number of other meters are being noted regularly but the consumers were not being dispatched bills as these connections have no record in the department. Moreover, there are many such meters as are being run with the registered names of SNGPL officials at different places.
Earlier, office in-charge Mubashar Habib had took action against a fake gas connection and got a case registered against the consumer but the case was withdrawn. When asked, the official refused to disclose why the case was withdrawn.
INQUIRY AGAINST STATION MASTER ORDERED: The inspector general of the Railways Police has ordered an enquiry against a station master Rahim Yar Khan in the case of renting out a Railways bungalow.
In November, 2011, Station Master Mian Muhammad Anwar Khalid has rented out his allotted bungalow to different persons. A workshop of peanut was also set up in the resident. Following complaints by the local people, the police had conducted a raid on the resident and arrested a number of residents. Later, a preliminary interrogation conducted by the Railways officials found the station master guilty in the case and the bungalow was sealed.
Furthermore, the officials of the Railways Headquarters Lahore including the inspector general and AIG (Crimes) Intizar Ahmad Qureshi took action and ordered another inquiry against the accused.
