PESHAWAR The NWFP Olympic Association here on Thursday formally announced schedule of trials for various games to represent the province in 31st National Games to be held from November 15 to 21. There is no age limit. Besides, players for all games included in the National Games can participate in these trials, said Zulfiqar Butt, general secretary of the association and Iltaf Umarzai, Director NWFP Sports Board, while speaking at a press conference here at Qayyum Sports Complex. We assure you all that trials will be fair and transparent, he added. Regarding schedule of trials for various games, Zulfiqar Butt said that athletics trials would be held on October 13 and 14 at Qayyum Stadium while badminton trials would be on October 10 at same venue. Similarly, trials of basketball would be held on October 12 at Qayyum Stadium, boxing on October 10, bodybuilding on October 14 at Gold Gym, Lahori, Peshawar city, cycling at ground of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Peshawar (BISEP), swimming on October 13 at Adil Khan Swimming Pool and golf players would be assessed for national games on October 15 at Golf Club, Peshawar. Furthermore, he was of the view that for handball players, trials would be held at University of Peshawar on October 12 while for judo players would compete on October 11 at Qayyum Stadium. Trials for kabaddi would be held at Qayyum stadium on October 10, football on October 16 and 17 at Hostel No 2 ground of University of Peshawar, karate on October 11 at Qayyum Stadium while taekwondo players would be assessed at Qayyum Stadium on October 13. The team for volleyball would be selected on October 11 at Qayyum Stadium and the weightlifting trials would also be held at same venue and date. The wrestlers would be judged on October 12 at Qayyum Stadium while wushu players would compete to get a berth in the team would be held at same venue on October 11, they informed. In addition, trials for squash and table tennis had already been completed and the list of players has been issued while the date for hockey trial would be announced soon. Director Sports NWFP, Iltaf Umarzai asked all the associations that only deserving and talented players should be selected. To a question, he said that the sports arena would be completed till November 10 adding that it would be a good addition to sports facilities of the province. They asked the presidents of various sports associations to work-hard to increase the numbers of medals in the forthcoming National Games to be held in Peshawar.
