KARACHI- Sindh High Court on Wednesday suspended operation of impugned show-cause notices issued by Secretary Defence to PIA pilots protesting against PIAs deal with the Turkish Airlines. A Division Bench, comprising Sindh Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai, also issued notice to Defence Secretary, MD PIA and Deputy Attorney General for February 17, 2011. Advocate Anwar Mansoor Khan moved miscellaneous application on behalf of Pakistan Airlines Pilots Association, challenging show-cause notices recently service by Defence Ministry to pilots for allegedly agitating against airline administration. He stated PIA administration had recently struck deal with Turkish Airlines to operate its operations in Western countries. PIA pilots were protesting against this deal to highlight 'corrupt practices by PIA officials, he said. He stated peaceful protest by pilots is their fundamental right ensured under Article 16 of Constitution. Secondly, Defence Ministry had no lawful authority to issue show-cause notice to pilots, as they were employees of PIA. Therefore, show-cause notices are illegal & without legal effect, he added. He submitted giving right of Turkish Airlines to carry out operations in Western countries would eliminate presence of national flag carrier in Western market, which will cause financial loss to PIA.
