11 killed, 30 injured as bus falls into ravine in AJK

MIRPUR (AJK) - As many as 11 persons were killed and 30 others injured, eight of them seriously, when a passenger bus fell into a 200-feet deep ravine at Azad Pattan near Rawalakot in Azad Jammu Kashmir on Monday, official sources said. Rawalakot police sources told The Nation on Monday afternoon that the ill-fated Rawalpindi-bound bus, with over 50 passengers on board, was on way from Mang town of Rawalakot district. The bus met the accident skidding into the ravine while negotiating a sharp turn near the hilly Azad Pattan town. Seven of the passengers died on the spot whereas four others died in the nearby hospitals. The injured have been rushed to District Hospital Sudhanoti (Palandri) and Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rawalakot - where the condition of eight of them is stated to be serious. AJK Prime Minister Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan has expressed deep sense of shock and grief over the loss of precious lives in bus accident in Rawalakot district. He expressed sympathies with the bereaved families of the passengers who lost their lives in the accident. The Prime Minister directed the management of District Hospital Palandri and Sheikh Zayed Hospital Rawalakot for the dispensation of proper medical facilities for the early recovery of the injured persons.
