RAWALPINDI - Chief Secretary Punjab Navid Akram Cheema directed the authorities concerned to make all-out efforts for smooth flow of traffic on Benazir Bhutto Road (BBR) during construction work on Metro Bus Service (MBS) project in order to minimise public miseries.
He ordered the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi to depute extra traffic warden force on BBR to control traffic flow. He said that the work on MBS project would be completed as per schedule.
Navid Anwar Cheema issued these instructions while presiding over a meeting of steering committee of MBS project concerned departments here on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by Chairman CDA Mahroof Afzal, Commissioner Rawalpidni Division Zahid Saeed, Secretary P&D Arif Anwar Baloch, Additional Secretary Finance Ali Hassan Malik, Senior Joint Secretary Finance Regional Police Officer (RPO) Akhtar Umar Hayyat Lalayka, Chief Panning Commission (T&C) Syed Anjum, Nespak Vice President, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Muhajid Sher Dil, District Coordination Officer Sajid Zafar Dall and officials of the other departments.
The chief secretary said that the government would complete construction work on MBS project swiftly as per orders of prime minister and chief minister and the purpose of holding this meeting was to create liaison between provincial and federal departments to accelerate work without any pause.
Commissioner Zahid Saeed, who is also DG RDA and Project Director of MBS project, gave a detailed briefing to the attendees of meeting. He said that construction work has begun on three parts of MBS Rawalpindi section. He said that those firms, which have been awarded tenders has also set up their site offices and started work on the project. Tenders and other legal formalities for work in Islamabad section would be completed toady, he added.
RPO Akhtar Umar Hayyat Lalayka said that police have chalked out a comprehensive traffic plan for smooth flow of traffic with deputing well-equipped traffic wardens on BBR. DCO informed that the government has launched a campaign against the encroachers. After the meeting, Chief Secretary Punjab Navid Anwar Cheema visited Mareer Chowk and viewed work on MBS project.
