President forms committee to allay Hindu families’ concerns


ISLAMABAD  - President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday, taking serious notice of reports regarding sense of insecurity prevailing among Hindu families in Sindh, directed the concerned authorities to allay the community’s grievances and to submit a report in that regard.
Spokesperson to the president Senator Farhatullah Babar said the president had also constituted a three-member parliamentary committee to visit different parts of the province to express solidarity with Hindus on his and government’s behalf and to reassure them about their security and well-being.
The committee comprises Senator Hari Ram, MNA Lal Chand and Federal Minister Moula Bakhsh Chandio.
Our staff reporter adds: The Federal government said Friday it was probing various media reports regarding mass migration of Hindu families from Sindh to India over security issues.
A spokesman of the Ministry of Interior in a press statement said a three-member committee comprising senior parliamentarians headed by Sindh Chief Minister had been constituted to look into the complaints at local level.
He further said that according to the official record, 117 Hindu Yatrees had stated in their affidavit that they were going to India to visit their religious places.
“All of them were allowed to go to India and they have crossed the Wahga Border today (Friday),” he said, adding they had no complaint of insecurity in their respective areas.
The Director General, FIA, however, will continue his investigations to ascertain the role of agents assisting for the visas of Yatrees, the statement concluded.
