Delay in treatment draws ire of attendants

LAKKI MARWAT - Relatives of an aged patient on Friday blocked Bannu-Mianwali Road to protest the delay in provision of treatment facility at the District Headquarters Hospital Tajazai.
According to reports, one Munir Ahmad, resident of Baistkhel, had brought his ailing mother to the DHQ hospital where doctor reportedly prescribed/advised him to conduct some medical tests of the patient. Munir Ahmad took her mother to the laboratory where he was told to wait till the end of electricity loadshedding.
When power supply restored he again went to the laboratory to carry out medical tests of his mother but by then the technicians had left the facility.
It angered Munir and his other relatives and they came out on the busiest road connecting Bannu with Mianwali via Lakki Marwat along with the female patient.
They closed the road in front of hospital's main gate for vehicular traffic and raised slogans against the administration and doctors of the health facility.  On the occasion they said that the patient was brought to the hospital from remote Baistkhel village in the morning but she could not be provided any kind of treatment till the end of the day.
"Doctors and paramedics do not take interest to perform duty at the state run health facility as a result the patients have to suffer a lot," they alleged. They asked the government to shut the hospital if doctors and other employees were not interested to perform duty there.
Activists of Tehrik Tahaffuz Haqooq-Marwat led by former Nazim Johar Muhammad also reached the place to express solidarity with the protesters. Talking to this correspondent, Johar said that the government should take notice of the apathy on part of DHQ hospital staff.
"The high ups concerned of the provincial government should fire the derelict and negligent doctors and paramedics if they are serious to make the district headquarters hospital fully functional," he maintained.
PTI MNA Col (Retd) Ameerullah Marwat who rushed to the area also tried to pacify the situation and convince the protesters to end their agitation. The lawmaker assured that health officials would probe the matter and initiate stern action against guilty doctors and other staffers of the hospital.
The protesters later opened the road and dispersed when Additional Assistant Commissioner Pir Muhammad Mehsud and DHO Dr Abdul Ghaffar Wazir assured that responsible hospital's staffers would be suspended from service, besides they would recommend to the higher authorities concerned to initiate disciplinary action against them.
