Model Town incident: SP Salman to blame

LAHORE- The Elite Force In-charge Abdur Rauf alleged that SP Salman Ali Khan ordered security personnel to open fire on the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) workers.

This was stated before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) that held an inquiry into the incident.

On June 17, at least 14 PAT workers were killed and several others injured in violent clashes between party activists and the Lahore police.

Rauf claimed that Khan had ordered the security personnel to shoot at the protesters’ legs. He added that the security officials expressed their reservations in fear of the wind altering the trajectory of their bullets, which could cause serious injuries.

In his statement, Rauf informed that the security personnel did not fire despite the SP’s order, SHO Shaikh Amir Saleem, present at the scene, asked the SP to issue the order again. Upon a repeat of the order, the personnel fired around 200 rounds at the protesters.
