PESHAWAR - A total of 75,241 displaced families having 8,76,999 individuals have been registered so far at the Registration Points of PDMA.
According to daily situation report issued by the Chief Secretary Control Room established at the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) regarding displaced persons of North Waziristan Agency in Bannu, a relief camp has been established which will work under the PDMA and will support the district administration in relief activities.
The provincial government has released Rs349 million to PDMA for establishment of camps in Bannu city. However, in the wake of the ongoing military operation, a decision was taken by the federal government to establish camps inside Frontier Regions, which fall in the jurisdiction of FATA administration. The camps have been established by the FDMA and jointly administered by Pak Army and FDMA wherein all facilities like shelter, cooked food, water and other allied services are being provided to the displaced persons. Looking to the trend of DPs not going to camps rather off-camps, the provincial government has wisely decided to convert this amount into cash assistance for 15,000 displaced families at the rate of Rs3000 per month upto six months. Additionally, Rs5,000, one time, as Ramazan Food Package will be given to each family. This whole amount will be transferred to each displaced family via a transparent mechanism by PDMA/FDMA on the basis of verified data from NADRA.
Although NGOs/INGOs and UN agencies are not involved in relief activities as per the decision of the federal and provincial governments not to go for an international humanitarian appeal. However, the system of humanitarian assistance has been streamlined on the direction of Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by channelising their relief packages through the government.
The PDMA has requested all the DCs to constitute district level committees to collect relevant information about displaced persons residing with their relatives. This data will be used for security as well as provision of cash to DPs.
The DG Health Services also paid a visit of Bannu and constituted various teams to provide round-the-clock emergency care to the DPs. The Public Health Engineering Department has also been directed to ensure clean drinking water facilities in the camps. Moreover, additional vehicles were also placed at the disposal of district administration Bannu to ensure quick relief to the DPs.
Apart from that rescue-1122 has provided three state-of-the-art ambulances along with staff to help DPs in case of any emergency.
