Bid to grab green belt draws ire

RAHIM YAR KHAN
People from different walks of life protested outside the DCO office against the alleged occupation of green belts outside the Government Postgraduate College for Women (GPCW) here the other day.
The protestors including City Council President Saifullah Niazi, Panjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) SVP Tahira Parveen, VP Farhat Nawaz said that some influential and political people were trying to grab the green belt outside the GPGW.  They claimed that the land was allocated for Comprehensive High School in 1982 and in 1997 it was allotted to Government Degree Girls College.  Later, The TMA auctioned the green belt and constructed boundary walls to get the possession and later they constructed shops on the land. They alleged that it was a conspiracy of the TMA.
Later, DCO Khalid Saleem met with the delegation of protestors and told them that court had allowed the construction.  The members of delegation told the DCO that there were waiting areas and parking lots for students and their parents on the land. The DCO assured that he would coordinate to solve the issue.
