Court orders action against IG Prisons

ISLAMABAD (Online) - Rejecting the reconciliation between the accused persons and the family members of an abducted girl through jirga, the Supreme Court on Monday ordered the chief secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to initiate action against the IG Prisons. The IG Prisons had provided 14 jail staff to provincial minister Nisar Gul for kidnapping the girl. A three-member bench presided over by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the case. Iftikhar Gillani Advocate told the court that the accused persons and legal heirs of the girl had reached reconciliation; therefore, the suo motu case could not be taken up for hearing. Rejecting his arguments, the bench remarked that the girl was kidnapped and kept in habeas corpus for six days and the jirga had no authority to decide matter. The court directed Attiq Ullah Wazir, the investigating officer, to provide the details about the investigation on May 14, the date fixed for next hearing. The bench further remarked that that no prisons authority was authorised to take any action outside the jail premises. Informing the chief justice about the abduction incident, the mother of the abducted girl stated that provincial minister Nisar Gul came up to her home along with 14 jail staff personnel and said a proclaimed offender was hiding in the house and they had to trace him. Later, he took away her daughter Nabila and two sons and left her daughter after six days outside the house of Karam Shah Advocate. The investigation officer told the court that 14 personnel, including 6 policemen, had been arrested while provincial minister Nisar Gul had sought bail before arrest.
