Wajia Sundas wins NWFP Women Cycling Championship

PESHAWAR (APP) - Wajia Sundas clinched the title of the Individual time trials race title while Frontier College for Women grabbed the team time trials race trophy in the 4th NWFP Women Cycling Championship held here at Board ground on Saturday. Chief Manager State Bank Taleem Kazi was the chief guest on the occasion. President NWFP Cycling Association Syed Azhar Ali Shah, Vice President Ms Rahim Bibi, Secretary Nisar Ahmad, female students from various colleges and their sports in-charge were also present. There were two categories in which 53 girls took part comprising Individual Time Trials and Team Time Trials. The cycle race was opened to all besides players from Mardan, Charsadda, teams from Frontier College for Women, Peshawar Model School and College, Frontier Model School and College, Frontier Foundation Girls College Gulshan Rehman, Kohat Road, Government Girls College Charsadda and Government Girls College Mardan also took part. A total of 1000m race in individual time trials Wajia Sundas of Peshawar clocked 1.6.35sec by winning the race, closely followed by Aysha of Peshawar with her time 1.6.44sec took second position while Fatima recorded third position with her time 1.6.86sec. Shumaila Khan (1.8.43sec), Anam (1.8.94sec) and Hira (1.13.01sec) were the other position holders. Girls who competed well comprising Hina (1.8.95sec), Mehvish (1.8.80sec), Hifza (1.20.61sec), Manam (1.14.92), Asia Khan (1.15.81sec), Kiran (1.53.91sec), Rabia (1.24.01sec), Salma (1.28.14sec), Sabina (1.23.28sec), Mashal (1.15.99sec), Shumaila (1.8.43sec). In the team trials race, Frontier College team comprising Manam Khan, Aysha, Sidra and Kiran Khan clocked 1.10.59sec and took first position, followed by Peshawar Model Degree College team comprising Fatima, Shumila, Hifza and Hira clocked 1.14.52sec, Frontier Model School and College with 1.18.68sec and Gulshan Rehman Girls College remained at fourth with 1.41.86sec. Speaking on this occasion, President NWFP Cycling Association Syed Azhar Ali Shah said the NWFP Cycling Association will be holding trials on October 12 at 11.00 a.m, both for male and female. The trials will be opened to all for selecting male and female squads for the forthcoming 31st National Games. The cycling event will be held at Abbottabad, he said. In his speech the chief guest Tasleem Kazi appreciated the association for holding activities for the female. He also assured all out support and expressed the hope that the teams of NWFP would produce good result in the Games. Later, he gave away trophies, certificates and shield to the position holders. The overall trophy was awarded to Frontier College for Women as its players recorded best performance in individual and team events.
