RAWALPINDI - The presence of Punjab chief secretary on Benazir Bhutto Road, who a day earlier strictly ordered police and district government to ensure smooth flow of traffic during the construction work of Metro Bus Service (MBS) project, made no difference on Friday, as the powerful auto mafia organised Friday Bazaar of cars at 6th Road and Chandni Chowk.
The mess of auto dealers and buyers and a large number of vehicles parked along BBR triggered a massive gridlock on the road. The government has imposed Section 144 and ban on setting up car bazaar on BBR, however, the car mafia violated the ban and continued illegal practice of selling and buying old cars blocking vehicular movement on BBR, while a few kilometres away CS Punjab Naveed Akram Cheema along with Commissioner Rawalpindi Zahid Saeed and other officials of district government was monitoring the construction work.
Chairing a meeting of steering committee of departments concerned, the CS ordered police and district government to make all-out efforts for smooth traffic flow on BBR till construction work of MBS project completed. The commissioner, DCO and CTO were not available for their comments despite repeated attempts.
