The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has asked the Shaheed Muhtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical and Dental University (SMBBMU), and its affiliated colleges to halt its unrecognized medical degree programmes going to start in the morning and evening shifts as well.
It has been revealed that medical colleges have been given a green signal for evening shifts of medical colleges by the university violating the laws and regulations of medical education in Pakistan. According to reports, the PMDC has sent a letter to the SMBBMU to stop evening shifts in the Chandka Medical College as training of students in an institution in evening shift cannot cover under the law and shall have penal consequences.
According to information, the list of present registered faculty of the Chandka Medical College was severely deficient and could not fulfill the minimum requirements of PMDC for 250 MBBS admissions particularly in basic sciences.
Juma Muhammad Mandokhail, PMDC Media Consultant, confirmed that in spite of deficient faculty for the morning programmes, the college has started evening shifts. He said the college had applied for the NOC at PMDC to start evening shifts but the Council had refused it still the college has announced to start evening programmes. Furthermore, the SMBBMU has also been running an unrecognized medical college i.e. Bibi Assefa Medical College under its banner which needs to be stopped.–Staff photo
