ECP, SC can’t take action against MPs

Islamabad-Former secretary of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Kanwar Dilshad said that registration of references against Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan does not have any importance in terms of law.
Talking to Online here on Saturday, the ECP cannot disqualify Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif from Parliament. It does not come in its jurisdiction. Even the Supreme Court of Pakistan cannot take action against them until the Speaker of National Assembly gives orders, he maintained.
He further said that registration of references was a temporary political stunt and tactic to put pressure on each other.
According to Article 63(1), the ECP can only take action if the Speaker of National Assembly directs it. In this context, the Speaker has to send a reference to the ECP and the Supreme Court.
