Cop booked over bribery charges

RAWALPINDI - A case was registered against a police officer on the instructions of Superintendent of Police (SP) Potohar Town Kamran Adil on account of demanding Rs 1,50,000 from the owner of a stolen vehicle, which recovered by the said police official, informed SP Office Officials on Friday. As per details, a citizen Syed Imdad Hussain Shah resident of Bakra Mandi submitted an application with SP Potohar Town Kamran Adil in which he stated that his Suzuki Carry van (MA-567) was stolen by unknown muggers from VARAN Bus Deport Saddar on 5/3/2010. A case of which was registered with Police Station (PS) Cannt on 8/3/2010, he added. SHO of the Cannt Police Station made Sub Inspector (SI) Malik Shabir as Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, he mentioned adding that he met with IO after some days who (Malik Shabir) told him that his stolen vehicle was recovered by police and would be given him back after paying Rs 1,50,000 as bribe to him. I paid Rs 10,000 to IO as token money in a hotel but later I could not arrange the remaining money upon which the IO had started using delaying tactics. Later, the IO came on my shop and gave me back Rs 10,000 and refused to hand over my recovered vehicle Imdad told SP in his application. On this, SP Kamran ordered PS Cannt officials to register a case against SI/IO Malik Shabir under sections 155/C and 161 of Police Order 2002. A case was registered while interrogation is under way, told SP office officials.
