SWAT/MALAKAND - At least three people, including two peace committee members and a policeman, were gunned down by terrorists in the Bara Bandi area of Swat district here on Wednesday morning while two unidentified miscreants shot two levies men dead at a checkpost in Ghawar kally area of Malakand Agency the same day.
In the first incident, two unidentified armed persons opened fire on peace committee members, Hazrat Hussain and Khalilullah, killing both of them instantly. Police guard Noor-ul-Hadi was also killed in the firing on the spot while Naimat Ali Khan and Syed Nawab were seriously injured and shifted to Saidu Teaching District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment.
It is pertinent to mention here that a couple of days back intelligence agencies informed the district administration and police officers that peace committee members and government officers were on the hit list of Taliban.
Talking to this correspondent exclusively, District Police Officer Sher Akbar Khan said the security forces and police had started a joint search operation in the area and hoped the culprits would be apprehended. Security had been provided to peace committee members and a policeman who was discharging security duty with the peace committee members also embraced martyrdom, he added.
After the attack, security had been put on high alert while additional police force deputed at every nook and corner of the city, the DPO asserted. An FIR has been registered at Kanju police station against the unknown terrorists.
In the second incident, at least two Levies officials were killed when unidentified miscreants opened fire at a check post in Ghawar Kally area of Malakand Agency.
According to levies In-charge Ghafoor Khan, the night attack took place in the Ghawar Kallay area of tehsil Dargai, 6 kilometres from the levies station. Khan said unidentified terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on the picket, leaving 2 officials Arshad of Batkhela and Imran of Hero Shah, Malakand Agency, dead.
Bodies of the deceased were buried at their native hometown while security forces launched a search operation in the area with no arrest so far. An FIR has been registered at Sakhakot levies station against the unknown attackers.
