KARACHI - Young Doctors Association (YDA) of Sindh has demanded of the government to increase their salaries at par with their colleagues in Punjab, threatening to go on strike from 18th May in the hospitals if demands were not met. This was announced by Dr Abbas Ali Shah, President Young Doctors Association (YDA), Sindh, in a press conference here at Karachi Press Club on Wednesday. He said that young doctors of Sindh had been protesting for the last two months for increase in their salaries and other basic facilities. The salaries of young doctors are not sufficient, he added. He reminded that President Asif Ali Zardari on 5th of last month had formed a committee to solve the problems of young doctors of Sindh, alleging that the committee members were not interested to solve the problems. He highlighted that during the young doctors strike the work in emergencies and operation theatres will be functional. Dr Abbas also added that doctors will check up the patients outside of OPDs and in wards in the hospitals. The young doctors several times contacted to the Sindh Government to solve the issue of YDA, the Chairman of the committee and finance minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah, Health Minister of Sindh and the other members was also aware of doctors issues, Abbas further added. Dr Samreena Hashmi President Pakistan Medical Association Central PMA highlighted that four thousand doctors shifted various countries from Pakistan during last six months. She informed that more than 17 thousands of young doctors are being worked in all over Sindh. Answering to a question She criticized that the Sindh government injustice with the young doctors of Sindh. The government increased the salaries of young doctors of Punjab while the doctors of Sindh are still waiting for completing their demands. They demanded to the government that uniform policy for the doctors salary all over Pakistan. Allowances for doctors at par with judiciary and police department personnel. Regular services structure with time scale promotion of doctors. Appointment of Medical Officer in HPPS health personnel pay scale 18 through the public service commission. The government should ensure proper security for the doctors in the hospitals. Libraries for the doctors should be in the hospitals and better facilities should be provided for the patients in the hospitals, they further demanded.
