MOHMAND AGENCY - Eight militants were killed and 12 others sustained injuries when jet fighter planes and gunship helicopters pounded militant positions in tehsil Baizai and Safi in Mohmand Agency on Tuesday. The jet planes and gunship helicopters hit militant hide-outs at Mithai, Soran Darra and Walidad Koroona in tehsil Baizai resultantly eight militants were killed and 12 others sustained injuries. Besides several hide-outs of the militants were also damaged in the action. In order to expedite the on-going operation against the militants, fresh contingents of troops have arrived in the agency and have been deployed at the border areas of Mohmand Agency with other tribal agencies and settled areas of the province. At least three four bodies were also recovered from Alinagar and Sheikh Baba area in tehsil Safi. Militants blew up two towers of Mamagut Grid station with explosives. So far a total of four power towers have been blasted in Mohmand Agency. Meanwhile, two personnel of the security forces were also injured when a roadside planted landmine blew up at Soran Darra in tehsil Baizai. The injured personnel were rushed to a nearby hospital. Moreover, the news of the entry of a would be suicide bomber at Ghalanai forced the traders and locals to shut their shops and avoid going to Ghalanai Bazaar. Almost all the offices, schools and shopping centers remained closed in Ghalania and Miamandai and Yakaghund areas owing to the news that a suicide bomber had entered the area. Meanwhile, it was also reported that more 400 people have left their homes for safer places and coming to downtowns for shelter, for which, a camp has already been established in Nahqai area. Meanwhile, Corps Commander Peshawar Lieutenant General Yasin Malik and IG Frontier Corps Major General Nader Zeb visited FC camp at Mamadgut in tehsil Safi, Mohmand Agency and reviewed the ongoing operation in the agency.
