RAWALPINDI - In what appeared a big blow for PPP bigwigs, another accused Tauqeer Ali Khan, who is known to be the front man of PPP MNA Syed Ali Musa Gilani, agreed to become approver against Syed Ali Musa Gilani son of former Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani in ephedrine smuggling case.
According to sources, Tauqeer appeared before Court of Narcotics Substances Control (CNSC) Special Judge Arshad Mehmmod Tabassum on Friday and prayed to the court that he wanted to become an approver in the illegal allotment of Ephedrine quota against Syed Ali Musa Gilani.
A court of law had declared Tauqeer Khan as proclaimed offender (PO) in Ephedrine case and was arrested upon his return from Dubai by Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) at Karachi Airport.
ANF investigator Abid Zulfiqar also submitted an application in the court that prime suspect Tauqeer Ali Khan wanted to become approver in the case Syed Ali Musa Gilani.
However, the court did not record the statement of Khan because of ending court timings. The court adjourned the hearing till April 15, 2013.
Anti Narcotics Force alleged that Tauqeer was the front man of Syed Ali Musa Gilani, Pakistan Peoples Party MNA from Multan, and the mediator between health officials and two pharmaceutical companies Berlix and Danas.
The case, revolving around Rs 7 billion scam, made headlines in February 2012 after the Supreme Court (SC) pointed out political involvement in the alleged illegal allocation of 9,500kg ephedrine to two pharmaceutical companies and its conversion for sale in the local market.
