MULTAN - The legal fraternity marked May 12 as black day and observed a complete strike here on Thursday. The members of district and high court bars boycotted courts and staged protest demonstrations, demanding immediate arrest of those responsible for May 12 massacre in Karachi three years back. About 50 persons were killed and dozens injured in Karachi on May 12, 2008 when riots broke out on the arrival of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. The district and high court bars held separate demonstrations led by their leaders. Addressing the protesters, the speakers declared former president Pervez Musharraf and MQM chief Altaf Hussain killers of over 50 innocent citizens. Both of them are perpetrators of May 12 bloodbath. We demand their immediate arrest and trial, they added. They asked the government to demand Britain to extradite Altaf Hussain and Pervez Musharraf. They said that both of them hatched vicious conspiracies against Pakistan. The fire ignited by Pervez Musharraf has now taken many parts of the country into its folds. Hundreds of citizens are being killed in the name of war of terrorism. He is a traitor. He should be hanged, demanded the speakers. Earlier, court work got completely suspended in both lower and higher courts as no lawyer appeared before any court of law. Resultantly, the hearing of all cases was adjourned MSM and N League hold rally Meanwhile, the activists of Muttahida Shehri Mahaaz (MSM) and the PML-N workers brought a joint rally to pay tribute to the martyrs of May 12. They carried out non-stop sloganeering against the MQM and demanded immediate arrest of killers. Speaking on the occasion, Tariq Naeem Ullah and others said that though the movement for restoration of judiciary remained successful, nothing was done for the victims of May 12 violence so far. If the lawyers had got punished May 12 culprits, it would have sent a strong message of rule of law to the criminal elements. But unfortunately the rulers buried this issue for the sake of their political gains, they added. They demanded of the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to launch judicial inquiry into May 12 incident and punish the criminals involved in this tragedy.
