ISLAMABAD (APP) - The Election Commission has summoned six elected representatives to appear before a committee on August 23 for clarifying their position on their respective degrees. Starting the process in light of the Supreme Courts decision the Commission has formed the committee comprising a designated official of the EC, focal person of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and an official of relevant university to record position of the legislators regarding their degree status. Those who had been called to appear include three members of the National Assembly Maulvi Agha M, Syed Javed Hasnain, Syed Suleman Mohsin and three members of provincial assembly Shafiq Ahmed Gujar, Waseem Afzal and Gulistan Khan. Spokesman of the Election Commission Afzal Khan told this news agency the committee would furnish the report to the Chief Election Commissioner and the remaining candidates, who were 40 in number would be summoned in phases to transparently and properly complete the process. Reports submitted to the Election Commission says the degrees of 46 members of the Senate, National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies had been found fake and uncertified. Thus, the commission has decided to provide an opportunity to these members to clarify their position on their degrees.
