PESHAWAR - The provincial government has decided to give autonomous status to Institute of Kidney Disease, Hayatabad, which is presently working under Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar, and constitute an autonomous board to run the affairs of the institute in order to turn it into a full-fledged and vibrant medical institution.
This was decided in a meeting held here with Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak in the chair. The authorities concerned were directed for all necessary steps to ensure the provision of all the treatment facilities of Kidney diseases including transplantation, dialysis, urology and nephrology and ensured requisite medical staff as per SNE.
The Chief Minister asked that all the available resources should be utilised for strengthening the Kidney Centre and the deficiency of funds would not be let hamper the matter. He noted with concern that due to non existence of a proper institution for the treatment of Kidney related diseases in the province, people have to travel to Karachi and other big cities of the country for treatment purpose.
He also took strong exception of the absence of the staff at kidney centre from duties and strongly directed the Director IKD to ensure the punctuality of his subordinates and to have bio-metric system in place for the purpose if so needed. Touching upon the measures so far taken by the provincial government for the provision of health care facilities to the people the Chief Minister said that Health Insurance Scheme has been started for the poor people with an initial fund of Rs.500 million while "insulin for life" program was introduced for needy patients with a fund of Rs.25 millions adding that under the program insulin Banks have been set up in five divisional headquarters of the province to provide free insulin to the needy patients.
Similarly he said Rs.300 millions have been allocated to provide free health care facilities to those needy women who are in their family ways, Rs.200 million have been set aside for the immunizations of new born babies and their mothers, Rs.680 have been allocated for the poor for treatment of fatal diseases like Hepatitis and Cancer, one billion rupees have been specified for the up-gradation of emergency wards in all the district headquarters hospitals of the province, enumerated the chief minister.
