Karachi operation intensified against criminals

KARACHI- Law enforcement agencies intensified its operation against criminals in Karachi.

Reportedly at least two armed and dangerous street-looters bit the dust while no less than three ‘gunshot-injured’ outlaws landed in the hands of law early today morning. The first such scrap was reported from Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase V.

“A couple of armed highwaymen, who were busy holding up motorists and bikers in DHA Phase V, opened fire on the cops after they were challenged to surrender, triggering a gunfight that lasted for a while,” a police official to sources.

The shootout left one ‘road agent’ wounded; however, the other one took to woods as soon as his partner-in-crime fell to the ground, he added. “A handgun was recovered from the injured goon,” said he.

Swinging into action, cops succeeded in capturing a duo of notorious extortionist in Lyari’s Baghdadi area --also today. “Known as the ‘big guns’ of Lyari, hardcore gangsters Hunain and Tanveer were wanted for multiple counts of violent crime ranging from extortion to murder,” SSP Lyari Shahnawaz told sources.

Shahnawaz further said that both the mobsters, who belonged to infamous Ustad Faizoo Group, were injured and arrested after a brush with police. “The held gangsters used to extort money from citizens in the Moosa Lane area of Lyari,” said SSP Lyari. The wounded felons also surrendered firearms of various calibers.

In another police action on Steel Town link road, an armed highwayman, Waqar aka Vicki, was shot dead. According to cops he was involved in looting people at gunpoint during the Sehri hours (time for predawn meal in the fasting month of Ramazan). Reportedly an armed robber was killed by the cops in Orangi Town.
