KHYBER AGENCY  - Project In-charge of Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) Major Haseenullah said that construction work on the Pak-Afghan Road initiated on 2012 would be completed by the end of December 2014.
Briefing the media on Sunday, Major Haseenullah said the 44km long road would be completed with the financial support of the United States and would cost $77 million.
He said the project has been divided into seven phases as per its demographic location. "The 16km road has been constructed in first phase in Jamrud and was opened for all kind of traffic," he added.
He said that cutting, levelling and other technical formalities of the road has been completed and till the end of current year 35km road from Karkhano Market Peshawar to Landi Kotal Bazaar would be completed.
Local tribesmen expressed amusement over the completion of first phase of the project in Jamrud, saying the construction of the road provided them relief in travelling to Peshawar.
However, people of tehsil Landi Kotal expressed dissatisfaction over slow construction work by the FWO. Malik Abdullah Khan said that work on the road at the Khyber Zakha Khel area is very slow which has multiplied miseries of the locals.
On the complaints of tribesmen, Major Haseenullah replied that they are well aware of the grievances and problems being faced by residents but it is technical and engineering task. However, he said that all efforts would be made for the welfare of the locals.
After the construction of Pak-Afghan Route, it would not only provide advance travelling facilities to the tribal people but would enhance trade with Afghanistan and Central Asia which will cause improvement in life standard of the dwellers of the area.
