Kalash Festival starts

ISLAMABAD - Despite growing incidents of terrorism in the country, the people and administration of Kalash Valley joined hands and kicked off annual Spring Festival, giving a message that they are not afraid rather determined to fight against it. We are not afraid of enemies of the country and are united to defeat terrorism. The annual festival would be celebrated on its schedule as usual, a senior official of administration of Kalash Valley told The Nation on telephone. The official further said that arrangements to celebrate the festival were done in collaboration with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Corporation (KPTC). The festival is celebrated by all Kalasha people living in the valleys of Chitral, he said. Traditional events like cultural dances and songs will be featured during the three-day festival (May 13-16). It is the time to thank for the end of harsh cold weather and to celebrate the arrival of the more productive spring season. It is pertinent to mention here that Kalash Valley is one of the major tourist attractions in the country, which is situated in Chitral district of KP. Kalash Valley as a whole is the combination of three other valleys including Birir, Rumboor and Bumburate. Among these three valleys, Bumburate is the largest and the most beautiful.
