PESHAWAR - Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) provincial legislators have threatened to besiege Wapda House and dismantle main power transmission line to Punjab, if the Federal government tried to suspend electricity supply to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Speaking at a news conference here at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, PTI Member Provincial Assembly form PK-6 Fazal Elahi and Mehmood Jan from PK-7 said that State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali insulted the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by issuing abusive statements against them.
He said that the Federal Minister had also given warning to suspend power supply to 11 feeders of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to low recovery of dues.
He informed that the Pesco officials were already busy in installation of power meters at PK-7 and the area people were also cooperating with the officials in this regard then what is need of issuing such irresponsible statements.
He, however, warned if power supply was suspended to the three feeders of his constituency and hindered installation of electricity meters, then they would move to strongly resist the step and will besiege the Wapda House in Peshawar.
PTI leaders further said that the Federal government failed to take back the unwise decision then they would compel to dismantle the main power transmission line to Punjab. They said due to suspension of power supply from three feeders, including Mathra, Shahibala and Kohiyan, more than 5,000 families would be affected.
Mehmood Jan said that the people of his constituency had rendered numerous sacrifices for the construction of Warsak Dam but did not receive any royalty payment or compensation for damages to their lands. He said that around 6,000 mega watts electricity was produced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but electricity loadshedding was at its peak in the province.
He alleged that Punjab is leading in power thefts cases but the State Minister is pointing finger at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
"We demand of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to appoint a sensible person as State Minister for Water and Power," he added.
Fazal Elahi on the occasion also said that he would soon disclose corruptions of the Chief Executive Pesco before the media.
