LAHORE: Central leader of Pakistan People's Party Senator Aitzaz Ahsan claimed that the judiciary was overstepping the Constitutional frontiers, adding however that the Parliament would elect a new prime minister if the second one was ousted too.
Addressing an Iftar-dinner hosted for the party workers, Aitzaz Ahsan reiterated that no legal proceeding could be initiated against the President under the Constitution and that the judiciary enjoyed no such powers to change the Constitution.
He said some elements were taking advantage of the judiciary by taking political issues to the Supreme Court. "If Nawaz Sharif approaches the court, a commission gets constituted without issuance of a notification. And a prime minister is sent home if Imran Khan goes to the court," he lamented.
Aitzaz said the court instead of paying attention to such petitions should concentrate more on other cases.
He said the judiciary cannot dissolve the Parliament nor will the military interfere in the political affairs. The Parliament will complete its tenure, he added. "I was with the judiciary when it took a rightful stand and today I am with something/someone that is on a similar track," he claimed.
