Wapda officials bashed by power 'pilferers

OUR STAFF REPORTER SADIQABAD - Wapda recovery officials were beaten up by consumers as they suspended power supply of the pilferers in village Allah Bachaiya Gopang. The assistant manager (operations) of Mepco Mianwali Qureshian Subdivision complained the police that Sohail and Rafiq were using electricity though hooks whereupon the Wapda recovery team officials reached the village and seized the hooks and wire being used for power pilferage. On their way back near Ehsanpur, he added, 12 people including Sohail and Rafiq intercepted and besieged the officials and forcibly snatched the hooks and the wire seized by them. They, the complainant said, also tried to snatch their bike but when a number of people gathered there after noticing a scuffle between them, the attackers managed to escape. The police have registered a case against the accused. On the other side, Rahim Yar Khan district is facing the lowest loadshedding as compare to any other district of the country due to the maximum revenue generation. According to official sources, the monthly revenue generation of the RYK district is Rs772m, which is the highest in the country. Mepco is establishing a new grid station and upgrading three old grid stations and 152 low tension lines at a cost of Rs4.49 billion. They said that the line losses would be reduced up to two percent by this year, one percent line loss reduction mean saving of Rs 200m per month.
