Clans play significant role in Gujrat election

Members of three clans in Gujrat district are winners of 12 National Assembly and provincial assembly seats in the recent general elections.
Ch Pervaiz Elahi and his son Monis Elahi of PML-Q have won NA-105 and PP-110 seats respectively while Ch Abid Raza won NA 107 slot and his brother Ch Shabir Ahmed won PP-115 seat from PML-N platform. Likewise, on PML-N platform, Nawabzada Mazher Ali Khan and his nephew Haider Mehdi won the polls.
As the clans loom over political horizon, seven elected representatives out of 12 belong to Gujjar, three Jatt, one to Awan and one to Kashmiri family. Moreover, out of eight provincial assembly seats, seven were bagged by PML-N on which five new faces were appeared.
The PPP and PML-Q which ruled the country claimed the fortress of their respective parties have almost vanished from the district. However, the jubilant PML-N workers, supporters were celebrating their unprecedented victory in district.
Election offices of the PML-N’s newly elected members were crowded with hundreds of supporters, congratulating and embracing each other on the victory of their leaders for whom they had hectically campaigned.
 Local political leaders in small processions are still pouring in respective candidate’s offices.
