Workers lock up offices in protest

OUR STAFF REPORTER NANKANA SAHIB - Employees of the Wapda and Lahore Electricity Supply Company (Lesco) locked the Wapda offices during a protest against the proposed of power distribution companies (Discos) privatisation here on Thursday. According to detail, the Lesco employees locked the XEN, SDO, RO, Sub division (rural and urban areas) offices. They staged a demonstration against the proposed privatisation of Discos and induction of non-technical officials in the distribution company under the aegis of the Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union. They also demanded the government end loadshedding and decrease power tariff. Speaking on the occasion, labour union leaders including Malik Nasar, Chaha Aslam and Shahbaz Thakar said the protest was nationwide and all aggrieved employees participated in it. They threatened to shut all grid stations and company stores during the next phase of their protests if their demands were not accepted. Whereas, Lesco XEN Jamil Dogar, SDO Ch Naeem Ahsan and Rab Yar also went to Lahore to participate in a protest rally. under the Lesco Engineers Association platform.
