A US drone strike targeting a residential compound killed five people in North Waziristan tribal region on Thursday, officials said. According to political agent, two missiles were fired by a US spy aircraft on a house in Spalga town near Miranshah. The house was also destroyed in the strike. It is the second US drone strike in North Waziristan in a week and 7th this year.
At least 10 suspected militants were killed in a strike on February 9 when American drone struck a house.
The U.S. resumed drone strike in Waziristan tribal region in January after a two-month lull.
A recent investigative report said this week that the CIA-run pilotless aircraft are targeting innocent people.
The London-based Bureau of Investigative Journalism said the drone campaign in Pakistan has killed dozens of civilians who had gone to help rescue victims or were attending funerals. The investigation was published just days after President Obama claimed that the drone campaign in Pakistan was a ‘targeted, focused effort’ that ‘has not caused a huge number of civilian casualties.’
