3 political workers among 5 shot dead


KARACHI - Five people, including two activists of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and one from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, were killed in separate incidents of violence in the metropolis on Sunday.
A worker of the ruling PPP along with his friend was mowed down on Pir Mehfooz Road within the remit of the Malir City Police Station. Usman Baloch and his friend, namely Akbar Baloch, were heading some where on a motorcycle, when a bike-borne armed duo opened fire on them and fled. The two friends received critical bullet wounds as were ferried to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors declared them as brought dead. The bodies were handed over to the heirs after autopsies. No case was registered till the filing of this report.
Following the dual murder, tension engulfed Mehran Goth and its surroundings, where commercial and routine activities came to a standstill. As a result, massive contingents of law-enforcers were deployed in the area to avoid any further untoward happening. Another PPP worker was gunned down in New Karachi area within the precincts of the Bilal Colony Police Station. Identified as Aamid Gabool, the victim was sitting at an oil shop, when unidentified attackers, who came on a bike, opened fire on him and fled. Gabool sustained several bullets and died on the spot.
Separately, an activist of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was killed after getting into a fight with four unidentified armed men over a call girl within the remit of the Clifton Police Station.
The victim, namely Dilawar Awan, his friend Kamran Butt and the call girl went to Zamzama Street, where they were planning to spend the time. All of a sudden, four unidentified men, on a car, appeared there and insisted to take the girl with them.
As Dilawar offered resistance, the attackers opened fire on him, causing his instant death. The victim was a worker of PTI’s student wing. Police, however, took Kamran and the girl into custody and also got the pictures of the attackers from the surveillance cameras installed in the area. No arrest was made till the filing of this report. The PTI media cell meanwhile termed the killing as a failure of law enforcers and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.
UK helps in alternative sources for energy:  Commissioner Roshan Ali Sheikh said that exploring alternative sources for energy, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with a UK based company to produce electricity from garbage/waste.
Returning back from the official visit along with Dr Ishratul Ibad from London he said that Pakistan is listed 9th on polluted countries in the world. To eliminate the pollution, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with a British company to produced electricity from garbage, he added.
He also said the company would be provided support in cleaning the city and to dump the 9,000 tonnes garbage on daily basis.
He informed that during his visit to London, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad also signed various development projects for the Province.
