Militants abduct nine tribesmen

PESHAWAR - Dozens of armed people, believed to be militants of a banned outfit, abducted nine persons of Shinwari tribe from Mashokhail area in the jurisdiction of Badhabera police station on Saturday morning.
Police sources said the incident occurred at 8am in Faqirabad village near Mashokhail area of Badhabera police station when nine people from Shinwari tribe, coming towards Peshawar in a vehicle, were stopped by armed militants, abducted and taken to some unknown location of Khyber Agency.
The kidnapped persons were identified as Haji Rahim son of Habib Khan, his two sons, Abdul Manan and Muhammad Hussain, Gulab son of Yar Muhammad, Gul Meran son of Gul Afzal, Syed Nazar son of Syed Asghar, Muhammad Bari son of Surat Khan, Nasrat Khan son of Tekadar Khan and Yar Muhammad son of Lagar Khan.
Badhabera Station House officer Granullah said the armed group from a banned outfit of Lashkar-e-Islam was demanding cooperation from Shinwari tribe in various sabotage activities. He added when the family of Shinwari tribe refused cooperation, the militants threatened them with serious consequences. He revealed that one of the kidnapped persons, Yar Muhammad, made his escape successfully while the eight others were still missing.
A heavy contingent of police has been deployed in the area and security highly alerted to check movement of suspected persons. Later, the security forces and levies launched a search operation in Khyber Agency to trace out the militants responsible for the kidnappings.
There were speculations that some of the kidnapped persons have been released by militants but police denied and said that only one person managed to escape from the militants’ captivity.
The banned outfit of Lashkar-e-Islam is based in Khyber Agency from where its operatives frequently infiltrate settled areas and launch attacks on police and civilians.
