KARACHI - As many as 60 suspects including political workers were detained by the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) during targeted search operations in different parts of the City on Thursday. The Sindh Crime Investigation Department (CID) claimed to have arrested a target killer Mairaj alias Qasai and recovered one Kalashnikov from his possession. SSP CID Fayyaz Khan said during interrogation Mairaj confessed that he killed a PPP activist namely Mushtaq Baloch in Pak Colony. Another PPP worker Jahangir had also received bullet injuries in the incident. Mairaj involved in several cases of extortions and other heinous crimes. Further investigation is in process. Heavy contingent of police and rangers conducted operations in several areas of Liaquatabad including Al Azam Square, FC Area, Daak Khana Stop, Sindhi Hotel, Liaquatabad No 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. They sealed all interior and exterior roads to Liaquatabad and detained around 38 people including two real brothers namely Naeem and Naseem from Sindhi Hotel and recovered weapons from their possessions. Sources said around four target killers were detained who were shifted to an unknown place for investigation. Separately, Clifton police also claimed to have arrested four target killers namely Asif Ali, Mubarak, Adnan and Zeeshan from Upper Gizri area and recovered two 7MM rifles, one repeater and six TT pistols from their possession. They claimed that the accused belongs from a political party and they confessed that they murdered 8 persons in Saeedabad and Baldia Town police limits. They said due to targeted operation, they left their homes and nowadays they were living in upper Gizri area. On a tip off police conducted raid and arrested them. LEAs has also conducted raid in Old Golimar and Pak Colony area and arrested four target killers namely Sohail, Ali, Pervez and Alam and recovered huge weapons from their possessions. Police sources said they were involved in target killings and riots in recent wave of ethnic violence. Similarly Saudabad police conducted raid in Railway Crossing Malir area and arrested a target killer namely Zafar alias Andha and recovered one Kalashnikov from his possession. Police said Andha belongs from a political party. LEAs also conducted raid in Landhi No 1 and its surrounding area but no one arrests were made from these areas.
